TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir in the Forum Human Capital Indonesia (FHCI) conference on Wednesday iterated that he aims to increase women’s leadership in SOEs to 20 percent.

“Women’s leadership position [in SOEs] are currently at 11 percent and I ask for that to grow to 15 percent this year. And increase that to 20 percent by 2023,” said Erick Thohir in the online press conference on April 7.

The minister believes that women have strong roles not just in the economic sector but also in the micro scale where they lead and teach their children at home as future human resources.

He intends to start supporting women by providing the adequate protection against sexual harassment and other issues inclusive to women. “The work environment in SOE ministry and SOEs in general must be healthy and favorable for female leadership,” he asserted.

Moreover, Minister Erick Thohir aims to broaden the leadership positions from the younger generation aged below 42 years within SOEs board of directors. Currently, there are only 4 percent in this category that fill the BODs.

“This is the era of benchmarking. SOEs CEO must be able to compete with global CEOs,” said the State-owned enterprises minister.
