TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Head Doni Monardo confirmed that the number of victims of flash floods and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has reached 119 people.

“Based on data on victims as of 21:00 WITA (Central Indonesian Time), 117 people died and 76 people were missing in NTT. Meanwhile in Bima, NTB, two people died. There are 119 deaths in total,” said Doni in an online press conference on Tuesday night, April 6, 2021.

He outlined that there were 60 dead victims in East Flores Regency, 21 in Alor Regency, three in Malacca Regency, one each in Kupang City and Kupang Regency, 28 in Lembata Regency, two in Sabu Raijua Regency, and one in Ende.

Doni added that the search process for victims was hampered as heavy equipment could not yet be sent to the location, particularly three worst-hit areas viz. Adonara in East Flores, Alor, and Lembata. “Even though the equipment has been prepared, it cannot be delivered to the site yet,” he said.

Doni said that BNPB has deployed six helicopters to reach areas that are not yet accessible by land or sea transportation.

“During the last two days, logistics have been sent from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar. Most of which have been distributed to several affected areas, especially in Adonara, Lembata, and Alor,” he said.
