TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta government will start the trial for on-site studies in 85 schools starting Wednesday, April 7. At first, they planned to reopen 100 schools, but after the assessment process, they decide on 85.

"Out of 100 schools, the results of the initial assessment need validating and field surveys. After re-assessing, the number [of schools to join the trial] is reduced," Taga Radja Gah, the PR officer at Jakarta's Education Office, told Tempo on Wednesday, April 6.

The Education Office carried out a two-stage assessment to see the readiness of educational institutions that will join the pilot for reopening schools. The first stage is assessing the health conditions of teachers, students and other staff and employees.

In the first assessment, the Education Office also reviewed each school's readiness for implementing health protocols, along with its facilities and infrastructure.

The government conducted a second assessment by looking at the teachers' teaching strategy during the trial. "After the two assessments are fulfilled, then we will do another field survey," he said.

In the field survey, he said, a number of deficiencies were found, including how the schools would deal with an outbreak.

Based on these results, the Education Office decided to hold a two-weeks training, during which it was discovered that some schools are not ready for on-site activities.

"The school reopening trial will apply strict health protocols. The capacity per class is also limited to a maximum of 50 percent."
