Jakarta Allows Ramadan Prayers 'Tarawih' Under 50 Percent Capacity

TEMPO.CO Jakarta The Jakarta Administration will allow people to conduct mass prayers throughout this year’s Holy Month of Ramadan but will restrict the number of attendance to just 50 percent of a location’s total capacity.
This was announced by the city’s head of the Bureau of Education and Mental Spirituality, Muhammad Zen. “The implementation of tarawih (evening Ramadan prayers) is permitted [as long as] it adheres to the government's health protocols in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” he confirmed in a text message to Tempo on April 5.
Apart from limiting the number of attendance in mosques, he asserted that congregations must implement the 3M health protocols, which require people to always wear face masks, practice physical distancing and routine hand-washing.
“We also warn congregations and [mosque ] managements to avoid crowds,” he said.
