TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run pharmacy Bio Farma President Director Honesti Basyir said that Indonesia is one of the leading countries in total Covid-19 vaccine doses administered.

Based on data as of March 27, 2021, the country has administered 10.4 million doses of vaccines to the public. In detail, 7.2 million people have received their first doses and 3.2 million people have received the second or full doses.

"We are in the top ten when compared to other countries in the world," Honesti said in a meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Honesti said that this was supported by the supply of the vaccine which had been secured long ago. Besides, Indonesia participated in clinical trials and collaborated with all stakeholders to speed up vaccination in the country.

"Indonesia's position is better than that of several European countries," Honesti added.

The United States is leading the world in Covid-19 vaccine doses administered with 140.18 million, followed by China 102.42 million people, India 60.27 million people, the United Kingdom 33.02 million people, Brazil 17.52 million people, Turkey 14.45 million people, Germany 12.36 million people, and Russia 10.6 million people.

"We must maintain this and accelerate vaccination because we are also racing with mutations from viruses," said Honesti, adding that Covid-19 vaccination speed really determines how Indonesia achieves herd immunity.

Until yesterday, the government detected 1.49 million people confirmed positive for Covid-19 although the number of new cases tends to decline and the positivity rate stands below ten percent.
