TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Out of many news reports on Thursday, March 25, a case that grabbed public attention was the death of one out of three police officers who were incriminated in the death of FPI members in late 2020. This case gained traction as many had deemed police’s act as unlawful killings.

Head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim), Gen. Comm. Agus Andrianto on Thursday announced the death of his member, who was one of the officers reported in the unlawful killing case.

“When we were initially investigating the case, we received a report that the person had died due to an accident,” said Agus to Tempo on Thursday, March 25. “It was a separate incident. You may ask investigators [for further details].”

The case that the deceased police was incriminated in was the death of six Islam Defenders Front (FPI) members who were shot dead by the authorities at the Cikampek toll road in the dawn of Monday, December 7.

The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) then conducted an independent investigation and found an alleged unlawful killing in this case.

Following the report from Komnas HAM, police named three of its members from the Jakarta Metro Police unit to be allegedly involved in the unlawful killing. They had now set to officially investigate the case.
