TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has once again voiced her objection against the government’s 1 ton rice import plan that has been made public the past several days.

According to Susi, the national harvest has shown commendable results that is expected to fulfill the needs of the country.

She expressed this on Twitter account. “Pak Buwas [Budi Waseso, the State Logistic Agency or Bulog CEO] this year’s harvest is really outstanding.. Don’t choose to import.. Please fight this,” Susi tweeted on March 18.

This wasn’t the first time she mentioned the government’s plan to import rice. The former minister even once pleaded to President Jokowi to annul this decision.

Susi Pudjiastuti argued that importing rice is not crucial as Indonesian rice farmers are still harvesting a large amount of supplies. She also encouraged stakeholders to support Bulog (National Logistics Agency) to refrain from conducting imports.

The government announced its plan to import 1 ton of rice, which according to Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is needed to maintain food supply stability in Indonesia.
