Susi Pudjiastuti Asks Minister Trenggono to Ban Coral Exports

30 December 2020 11:22 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former minister Susi Pudjiastuti asked Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to prohibit the exports of coral reefs and restrict the Fish Quarantine and Fishery Quality Control Agency (BKIPM) at the ministry from issuing a health certificate for the commodity.

“Please ban the export of coral reefs. BKIPM is under your authority (Trenggono) as the Minister. Do not allow issuance of Health Certificates again. Return [the policy] as applied before the end of 2019,” said Susi via her Twitter account @susipudjiastuti, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020.

Susi tweeted in response to Trenggono's statement in his account @saktitrenggono regarding the potential marine sector in Indonesia. He said that the sector has a huge impact on the country's economy.

“A breakthrough is necessary, by thinking out of the box, without setting aside the sovereignty and sustainability of the marine ecosystem so that this great potential can be optimized for the welfare of the nation,” wrote Trenggono.

The export of ornamental corals was banned during Susi Pudjiastuti’s era. Yet in the era of Edhy Prabowo, the ministry reopened the export as reported by Bisnis.com.
