TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan during the Zero Carbon City International Forum claimed that Indonesia's capital city has managed to reduce 26 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in an attempt to meet the 50 percent reduction goal by the year 2030.

He said Jakarta is developing a community resilience in adapting to environmental and climate changes. The forum - also attended by Yokohama Mayor - was held online by the Institute For Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) where Anies himself was one of the speakers.

“Jakarta is currently committed to becoming a resilient city and we have reduced 26 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. We will continue to work on this until the goal is met, or even exceeded,” said Anies in the international forum on Wednesday, March 17.

He elaborated that the city has seriously worked on this goal through many partnerships and the formation of a climate task force established in 2020. The climate task force consists of stakeholders in public institutions, private entities, NGOs, and universities.

Anies Baswedan also highlighted the city’s development of low emission zones (LEZ) by transforming the public transport sector which he said is internationally acknowledged after receiving the 2020 Sustainable Transport Award.
