TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Chairman Prasetio Edi Marsudi asserted that he will not approve Governor Anies Baswedan’s request to sell the city’s shares in beer company PT Delta Djakarta.

“I will not join [the plan]. There will be no signature from my pen. The governor is allowed to sell [the shares],” said Prasetio in an online discussion broadcasted by the YouTube channel of Akbar Faizal Uncensored on Monday, March 15.

Prasetio explained that PT Delta is a ‘healthy’ company owned by the city government. Since 1970, the government has never injected funds into the liquor company.

At present, Jakarta owns 26.25 percent or 210 million shares in the company. Last year, PT Delta generated profits for the city amounting to Rp81.97 billion.

Prasetio underlined that he has never prevented the regional government from selling its stakes as long as it presented a clear study. He claimed he has received four letters of request from the Governor from 2018 until March 9, 2021, but they lacked the study background.

The regional legislators voiced different opinions regarding the plan to sell the beer shares. However, the PDIP politician stated that he will not approve the plan even though the majority vote accepted it.

“I can have a different opinion, can’t I? Go ahead and decide. The governor (Anies Baswedan) has discretion,” he added. “In the previous administration, [the governor made a decision] by using his discretion. Go ahead, but I will not participate.”
