TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the provincial government was still reviewing plans to reopen entertainment venues ,including karaoke lounges, since the capital city was no longer classified as a COVID-19 red zone.

“We are mulling over and discussing it as a suggestion from the central government that will start promoting Indonesian tourism. Jakarta will surely reopen tourist sites and other tourism-related business activities, including karaoke joints, gradually,” said Riza in Jakarta, Monday, March 15.

He said the city administration had reopened recreational areas such as Ragunan and museums for the past two weeks.

Jakarta has always called in experts and the public to discuss plans on the reopening of tourist and entertainment spots during the pandemic.

“We still have time to keep studying, researching, and collecting data with epidemiologists and experts, as well as associations and the public. We will discuss and seek the best, whether it is possible to have more units reopened in the future,” he added.

Riza mentioned the decision to reopen several recreational areas was based on the fact that the city was no longer a COVID-19 red zone. However, he reminded the public to remain vigilant and comply with the predetermined health protocols.
