TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourists planning on visiting Bali this weekend will likely have to bring additional cash as ATM services across the Dewata Island will temporarily go offline starting on Saturday noon, March 13 as the island is set to commemorate Nyepi or the "Day of Silence."
The Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office of Bali Province, Trisno Nugroho, said the machines would be offline beginning Saturday, March 13, at 12:00 Eastern Indonesia Time (WITA).
“The [temporary] deactivation of ATM services is to honor the sanctity of Nyepi that will be commemorated on Sunday, March 14,” said Trisno Nugroho from Denpasar on Thursday.
ATM services will return to normal on Monday, March 15 at 07:00 WITA, while other electronic transactions such as mobile banking, internet banking, and SMS banking will remain operable as long as there is internet coverage.
Trisno once again reminded tourists and the general public to prepare for this event as it applies to the entire Bali region.
