TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Merah Putih waste-to-energy plant (PLTSa) located at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management (TPST), Bekasi, managed to generate 783.63-megawatt-hours or MWh of electricity in 2020.

The Acting Head of Jakarta Environment Agency Syaripudin said that the garbage-burning power plant had operated for 221 days and processed 9,879 tons of waste last year. The production of Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA) also reached 1,918 tons.

From the total energy of 783.63 MWh, 110.59 kilowatts per hour were produced per ton of waste burned.

“As many as 29,263 paving blocks in 2020 or 3,658 pieces per month are produced as the utilization of FABA,” said Syarifuddin on Tuesday, March 9.

The agency’s head of integrated waste management unit, Asep Kuswanto, hoped that the power plant provides alternative waste processing that could reduce waste significantly and quickly using an environmentally friendly method, as well as produce electricity. Additionally, people could learn about thermal waste processing.

“This is in line with the vision of Bantargebang TPST to be the research and study center of waste management,” Asep said.

The Bantargebang Merah Putih PLTSa was the first waste-to-energy plant in Indonesia that can operate 24 hours per day and 250-300 days per year using waste fuel with a capacity of up to 100 tons per day.
