TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 Handling Task Force said that the school reopening and the implementation of face-to-face learning activities depended on the risk-based zoning map where the school is located.

“Schools in the green and orange zones are allowed to conduct face-to-face learning with permission from the local government,” said Wiku Adisasmito, the task force’s spokesperson, in a press conference on Monday, March 8, 2021.

However, he asserted that the government would be more stringent in supervising public spaces, including the learning activities. “The government is taking thoughtful consideration in opening public spaces,” Wiku added.

Previously, Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim targeted all schools to conduct face-to-face teaching and learning activities starting July 2021.

“By the end of June, the Covid-19 vaccination for five million educators will be completed so that in the new academic year 2021/2022 or in the second and third week of July, schools can hold face-to-face learning activities,” said Nadiem.

The school reopening would apply a rotational system, meaning that only about 50 percent of students would resume to the classroom and the rest would carry out online learning. The learning activities would be under strict health protocols.
