  • TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Education Agency Head Nahdiana recalled her conversation with the Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim regarding the preparation of school reopening. Nadiem, she said, reminded the city administration to not neglect health protocol against Covid-19.

“He (Nadiem) said that the health protocol is non-negotiable,” said Nahdiana in a virtual discussion held by a local community dubbed Gerakan Kebangkitan or Gerbang Betawi on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020.

According to her, the meeting took place in November 2020 after the central government announced a joint decree (SKB) of four ministers regarding learning guidelines for the 2020-2021 academic year during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nahdiana told Nadiem that the capital city was not yet safe from the virus transmission given most of the areas have not been classified as a green zone. Besides, 82,000 teachers and 1.5 million students would interact should face-to-face learning begin.

“So we are keen to be careful and conduct an assessment,” she added.

Previously, Nadiem Makarim announced that the permission of the school reopening would be in the hands of regional government or religious affairs offices. The zoning map issued by the Covid-19 mitigation task force would no longer determine the permit.
