TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin admitted COVID-19 vaccinations in the country remained sluggish as evident in the number of vaccines administered daily to the public, which were 80-90 thousand of doses daily or less than 10 percent of the national target of one million vaccines daily.

“Indeed, the first phase is still slow,” he said on Friday, 26 February 2021. The Vice President said there were multiple issues hampering the first phase of the vaccine rollout.

Ma’ruf Amin mentioned that the registration of vaccine recipients, the distribution of vaccine vials, and the issue of insufficient vaccinators had posed difficulties along the first vaccination phase.

Ahead of the second vaccination phase slated to kick off in April, Ma’ruf Amin hopes that the target will be able to be achieved by simplifying the technical difficulties in the field.

The government also plans to add the number of COVID-19 vaccine vials according to the needs of country’s population for the second vaccination phase. It is also said that the military (TNI) and the police would be involved to deal with the lack of vaccinators.
