TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fifty-year old EK, a Covid-19 patient who tried to kill herself by jumping out of a window from the 20th floor of Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital in Jakarta, is now undergoing psychiatric evaluation. Doctors suspect that the migrant worker has been under heavy stress due to the isolation.

EK's suicide attempt was thwarted by two Indonesian Air Force soldiers. EK was planning to end her life by jumping out of the 20th floor of Wisma Atlet Hospital's Tower 9 just before midnight on Tuesday, February 23.

The suicide attempt was recorded by another Wisma Atlet patient and the video went viral on social media. The recording shows EK dangling outside the window, while the two soldiers held her hand and tried to pull her up.

Medical workers at the floor found out about what was happening after they saw EK climbing out of the window of room 2034. They rushed towards the room and saw a TNI Navy officer, 2nd Sergeant Dadang, trying hard not to let go of EK's hand, who is hanging outside the room window.

Another TNI Navy soldier, First Private chief David David Anjar, rushed to assist his fellow officer as EK continued to break free. More people came to help and eventually managed to pull her up and brought her to safety.
