TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria assured that the river naturalization and normalization program, as well as reservoirs in the capital, would still be running.

“We keep running and budgeting both of the programs,” said Riza Patria at the City Hall on Tuesday, February 23. "There is no dichotomy between the two.”

Riza said that 13 rivers across the capital city will be normalized and naturalized gradually. The city government, he added, will cooperate with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in managing the program.

Jakarta has the responsibility to acquire the land, while the PUPR Ministry is in charge of installing river walls.

“We have allocated a budget of Rp851 billion supported by the central government for this program,” he said.

The newly-appointed head of Jakarta Water Resources Agency Yusmada, meanwhile, stated that the city government would no longer use the terms of normalization and naturalization in dealing with floods.

The government, Riza underlined (regarding the river naturalization), would focus on managing the river flow so that the river capacity could accommodate rain waters in the capital.
