TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno voiced his full support for the construction of Bandung Freedom Park. The project, he said, could be a new tourist destination that will encourage the creative economy in the region and absorb many jobs.

Sandiaga conveyed his support following a discussion with the renowned Indonesian sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta on Monday, February 22.

He also expressed enthusiasm when the pioneer of the Indonesian New Art Movement said that the park will be a new tourist attraction in Bandung. Moreover, the area is listed in the Walini Raya Development Area that will present a giant statue of the proclaimer of Indonesian independence, Soekarno.

The Bung Karno statue will add to the long list of I Nyoman Nuarta’s masterpieces, including the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) statue in Badung, Bali; the Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument in Surabaya, and the Indonesian Proclamation Monument in Jakarta.

Sandiaga Uno further mentioned that the construction of the Bandung Freedom Park will be integrated with the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train. He hoped that the park that is located in a valley in Cikalong Wetan District, West Bandung Regency can be realized soon to boost the tourism and creative economy industry.
