TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transportation Ministry has assured the public that flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia currently does not operate the Boeing 777-200 series. The announcement came after the United Airlines incident, in which one of its engines blew up mid-air, with the aftermath being recorded by a passenger.

“Garuda is the only air carrier operating the Boeing 777 in Indonesia, but people need to know that the engines used by the United States and Indonesian carriers are different,” said Transportation Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati to Tempo on February 22.

Adita explained that Garuda Indonesia currently operates Boeing 777-300ER planes and guaranteed that there were no attempts to this day to ground their operations. However, Adita asserted that both the ministry and the air carrier were intensively monitoring the current condition.

Earlier today the aviation industry erupted after Boeing immediately recommended air carriers using the services of the triple seven series ground the aircraft operations, especially the 777-200 planes that use the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine as the NTSB investigated the cause of the engine blowup.

Japan and South Korea are the only two countries operating the Boeing 777-200 besides the United States.
