TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated that the pretrial lawsuit filed by the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Community (MAKI) over the handling of the corruption case of Covid-19 social assistance is the lawsuit is the community's right to oversee the case.

Acting spokesman of the anti-graft agency Ali Fikri, said that the investigation process remains afoot as officers continued to summon witnesses. "To complete the evidence," Ali said on Friday, February 19, 2021.

Ali explained that the search was part of an investigation in an effort to find adequate evidence. Therefore, the place and the time could not be disclosed based on the law.

"Searching or summoning someone as a witness is a need for investigation not because there is a request or pressure from another party," Ali added, underlining that the KPK has never stopped the investigation of the corruption case.

Previously reported, MAKI submitted a pretrial suit to the South Jakarta District Court regarding the handling of Covid-19 social assistance corruption case.

MAKI believed that the KPK had stopped the investigation as investigators were suspected of neglecting 20 search permits granted by the agency’s supervisory board and they had not yet visited PDIP politician Ihsan Yunus even though the latter was mentioned in the case reconstruction.
