TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the latest observation report by the Mount Raung volcano observation post (PPGA) in the East Java province on Sunday, February 14, the mountain's volcanic activity has started to consistently weaken in the past two days.

Head of the Mount Raung PPGA, Mukijo, signs of this can be observed visually from the thin volcanic ash eruptions that had been blowing to the mountain’s eastern and northeast region. The quake activities in the region have also been recorded to weaken.

“The smoke has weakened and is visually thinner [in density] 300-500 meters from the peak of the crater,” said Mukijo on February 14. “At least rumbling noises were not being produced from the mountain every half an hour, same goes to lights from fire that have been absent since last night.”

He said seismic activity in Mount Raung’s vicinity since February 12 had been dominated by 1mm amplitudes or wiggles which fluctuated up to 4mm, which is considered insignificant and in general can be considered as a consistent sign that volcanic activity from the mountain located in the border of Banyuwangi, Jember, and Bondowoso has generally decreased.
