TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Environment Agency picks up garbage in rivers that are carried away after the rain. As of 16:00 yesterday, the agency picked up 746 cubic meters or 746,000 liters of trash from three locations in rivers.

The three locations are the Manggarai Water Gate in Central Jakarta; Kali BKB Season City in West Jakarta; and the Kampung Melayu bridge area of Kali Ciliwung in East Jakarta.

The Environment Agency's spokesperson, Yogi Ikhwan, said that a total of 55 personnel, 40 units of garbage trucks and seven units of heavy equipment were deployed to pick up the trash.

Heavy rains flushed Jakarta from Sunday night to Monday, causing a number of areas in Jakarta to flood. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 150 neighborhoods (RT) were flooded on Monday, January 8.

In South Jakarta, 30 families or 304 people were forced to evacuate from their inundated homes. Meanwhile, in East Jakarta, 193 families (725 people) fled their residence. Fourteen of Jakarta's flood evacuation camps are currently in use.
