TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson of the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Michael Quinlan, on Thursday said to Tempo that the embassy will not reveal the citizenship status of Sabu Raijua Regent, Orient Riwu Kore, who won the regional Pilkada election but is also allegedly a US citizen.

Quinian also said that the embassy will not be willing to answer questions related to the confirmation letter on Orient’s citizenship that was sent by the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

He also states that it is the policy for the embassy to not discuss private communication and official communication between institutions to the public.

Previously reported, PDIP party DPP chairperson Djarot Saiful Hidayat acknowledged that his party was ‘caught off guard’ after one of its party members Orient P. Riwu Kore had officially been elected as a Regent for Sabu Raijua Regency in the East Nusa Tenggara despite his alleged United States citizenship.

Orient’s citizenship is currently being investigated by the Law and Human Rights Ministry.
