TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, will have an office in Bali and work from the Islands of the Gods to monitor the region's tourism development.

“In the near future, Mr. Minister will work in Bali to monitor tourism development from time to time,” said the ministry’s tourism marketing director of regional I & II, Vinsensius Jemadu in an online conference on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

According to Vinsensius, Bali is the capital of Indonesian tourism that needs close supervision. Sandiaga decided to work from there so that he can immediately make a decision regarding tourism policies.

The minister has previously stated a number of working programs to raise the downturn of Indonesian tourism due to the pandemic. “Tourism is the sector that hit the hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we need to work fast together and working on all the existing job potentials,” he said.

Since his appointment as the minister by President Joko Widodo, Sandiaga Uno is mandated to focus on developing the tourism and creative economy in five super-priority destinations in the country. They are Lake Toba, Likupang, Borobudur, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo. One of his strategies is by making innovations, performing adaptations and collaborations.
