TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy chairperson of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI), Maulana Yusran, on Thursday said that business owners are facing a strenuous situation as the government extends the social restriction or PPKM.

"The PPKM is truly troublesome due to its complicated condition. We have gone through the pandemic for 11 months. The situation is ravaging where some businesses have gone bankrupt," said Yusran on Thursday, January 21.

In general, he said hotel and restaurant owners can only survive the Covid-19 pandemic for six months. "And after that, they battle the struggle themselves depending on the business. The ecosystem is ruined," he said.

The PHRI deputy urged the government to act fairly and provide a stimulus that is compatible with the businesses such as loosening the taxes for hotels and restaurants in Covid-19 red zones that are directly affected by the social restriction.

He claimed many regions still collect taxes despite knowing that the pandemic has reduced income for businesses in this field.
