Steepest Rise in Covid-19 Daily Cases Due to Data Entry Delay

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 Mitigation Task Force spokesman, Wiku Adisasmito, said the surge in new coronavirus cases was attributable to the delay in data entry from regions. Since Jan. 8, Indonesia’s number of new infections has been recorded at around 10,000.
The steepest increase in daily cases was reported last Saturday with 14,224 infections. “The hike in additional daily cases is very high. It is even the biggest since the first case was detected. One of the causes is the late entry of data verification,” said Wiku in a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
West Java contributed to the highest figure, followed by Jakarta, Central Java, Bali, and South Sulawesi. According to Wiku, the delay in data integration caused a large deposit of data reports, leading to a sharp rise in new cases.
“The government keeps striving to fix this. The Health Ministry is sorting out data received on January 11-17 and data which are late to be submitted from previous weeks,” he explained.
The Health Ministry and local governments, Wiku added, must continue to enhance the integration of Covid-19 data in order to reduce gaps between and delays in central and regional data. “There is no more tolerance for data delays because this is crucial in decision making,” he underlined.
