TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Tuesday morning (07:56 Western Indonesia Time) announced that another earthquake has hit the Island of Sulawesi, specifically in Central Sulawesi, 67 kilometers northeast of Donggala Regency.
BMKG stated that the earthquake was measured at 4.9 magnitude and came from the depths of 16 kilometers inland.
This quake follows two previous earthquakes that devastated two West Sulawesi regions of Majene and Mamuju on Thursday and Friday, which was followed by a number of aftershocks.
However fortunately, BMKG coordinator of earthquake and tsunami mitigation, Daryono, said that the lower number of aftershocks in Majene sends a positive sign that an impending strong earthquake will likely not happen in the near future.
