Jakarta Advised to Tighten PSBB Policy If Cases Remain High

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi asked Governor Anies Baswedan to tighten the Large-Scale Social Restrictions or PSBB if the number of COVID-19 cases did not decrease until January 25.
“[Jakarta should] tighten the PSBB even more,” said Prasetio at the City Hall on Monday, Jan. 18.
The PDIP politician called on people to be more vigilant and disciplined in applying the predetermined health protocols or 3M, viz. wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands regularly.
He asserted that enforcing discipline was vital since virus transmission continued to increase. “The number of cases keeps rising, and today’s number is the highest.”
The government, he emphasized, must not hesitate to extend the tightening of social restrictions if the virus spread had not been curbed.
Since January 11, the Jakarta administration has tightened the PSBB by limiting the maximum capacity of non-essential workplaces to 25 percent and business operating hours to 7 p.m.
“If there is no decline [in cases], we will extend it again because the virus transmission is really high,” said Prasetio.
Prasetio also appreciated the city government’s collaboration with the Metro Jaya Police and the COVID-19 mitigation task force in conducting tighter monitoring in locations with high cases.
