TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) hoped that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decision to appoint Comr. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo as a National Police Chief candidate could bring a good impact on the reform of the security sector.

As a former chief of the National Police's internal affairs division (Propam), Listyo Sigit is considered capable of mitigating possible problems within the institution.

“Such experience is important for Listyo Sigit to make improvements regarding the internal police monitoring mechanism,” said KontraS researcher Rivanlee to Tempo on Wednesday, January 13.

Listyo has a close relationship with the President as he served as Jokowi's aide in 2014-2016. He asked that the bond must not lead to conflicts of interest in law enforcement in the future.

President Jokowi had sent a Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) concerning the appointment of Comr. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo as a candidate for National Police Chief to replace General Idham Azis. Listyo would undergo a fit and proper test at the DPR Legal Commission.
