TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI)'s head of communication department, Erwin Haryono, said the bank’s consumer survey in December 2020 indicated that consumer confidence towards the current economy had strengthened and was closing-in on the optimistic zone.
“This is reflected from the consumer confidence index of December 2020 that scored 96.5 from November’s 92.0,” said Erwin in a release on Monday, January 11.
He asserted that consumer confidence had increased in the spending and education aspect in 14 cities that were surveyed with the highest in Bandar Lampung followed by Jakarta and Denpasar.
Growing consumer confidence in December 2020, he said, was due to improved perception towards the country’s economic condition and future expectations.
“The improvement is supported by the aspects of job opportunities, income, and the time punctuality of the purchase of durable goods,” the Bank Indonesia official said.
