Indonesia's Daily COVID-19 Cases Hit Record High with 10,617 New Infections

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's number of COVID-19 positive cases continues to soar. Based on the government's data as of 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, there were 10,617 new cases of coronavirus today, the highest daily hike since the pandemic hit the country.
With the additional cases, Indonesia recorded a total of 808,340 cases since the first case was detected on March 2, 2020.
Today's number of recovered patients also increased by 7,446, pushing the total recoveries to 666,883, while 233 more patients died. The mortality rate caused by SARS-CoV-2 infections in the archipelago thus hit 23,753 people.
