TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will restrict public activities, known locally as PSBB, in the islands of Java and Bali. The restrictions take place from January 11 to 25.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said the restriction is applied in several districts/cities and provinces wherein Covid-19 parameters requiring tighter regulations have been met.

"We are not prohibiting — just limiting," Airlangga said in a press release delivering the results of a meeting with President Joko Widodo on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

There are seven public activities that will be limited during the restriction period.

  1. Workplaces must implement a 75-percent WFH policy, meaning that only a maximum of 25 percent of the employees is allowed to be at the workplace.
  2. Learning activities are all conducted online.
  3. Essential activities and businesses related to people's basic needs are allowed to operate in full.
  4. Shopping areas must cease operations at 19:00. Restaurants are only allowed serving dine-ins up to 25-percent of the venue's capacity. Deliveries and take-outs are allowed.
  5. Construction activities are allowed with tighter health protocols.
  6. Places of worship can open with the tighter implementation of health protocols, and only up to 50 percent of their maximum capacity.
  7. All public facilities and socio-cultural activities are temporarily suspended.

Authorities said that most cities/regencies in Java and Bali tick at least one of the four parameters requiring mobility restrictions on a large scale.

The four parameters include death rate above the national average mortality rate of 3 percent, recovery rate below the national average of 82 percent, active cases rate of more than 14 percent, and hospital/ICU bed usage exceeding 70 percent of capacity.
