TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno confirmed that his side was still discussing the travel bubble plans with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.

He also planned to coordinate with the Health Minister, the Foreign Affairs Minister, and other related officials.

“We don't want to promise any potential issues in the current condition of COVID-19 pandemic. So we prioritize health. After talking with the Health Minister, we will arrange it again with Bapak (Transportation Minister). We are planning it well,” said Sandiaga after meeting with Budi Karya at the Transportation Ministry building, Jakarta, Monday, January 4.

The new minister reiterated that the plan for the segregated travel lane would be focused on Bali as the hardest-hit region. The province’s economy, he added, was minus 12 percent in the third quarter of 2020.

“More than 80 percent of the regional economy depends on tourism and the creative economy sector. The idea is being discussed,” Sandiaga said. Besides, the province’s infrastructure and human resources were ready and sufficient, he added.

Sandiaga Uno previously hinted that Bali would be the first location for the opening of the travel bubble. However, as preparations, he suggested that 70 percent of the province’s residents be prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
