TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on 2021 New Year’s Eve says Indonesia must be thankful for being able to go through 2020. In 2021, he says, Indonesia has to rise and end the pandemic.

“We all know that 2020 was a really tough year. Alhamdulillah, we went through the hardship courageously. We’re able to adapt to the new normal in order to face the outbreak, and one by one, we have handled economic problems,” Widodo says on the Presidential Secretary YouTube channel on Thursday evening, December 31, 2020.

Entering 2021, Jokowi is optimistic that Indonesia will rise, able to do innovation, and recover the economy.

“The government will continue to work hard to contain Covid-19 cases. Vaccination will also be executed by middle 2021 to reach the herd immunity, so the Covid-19 spread can be stopped,” the president says.

He highly urges all citizens to abide by the health protocols by wearing masks, physical distancing, and washing hands to recover public health. “Therefore, the world’s trust will increase, and eventually the economic recovery will occur in 2021.”

“Happy New Year of 2021, hope God will bless us all,” Jokowi remarks.
