TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, known as Gus Yaqut, visited the Christmas celebration event at Immanuel Church (GPIB Immanuel or Gereja Blenduk) in Semarang, Central Java, last night, December 24, 2020. The chief of GPIB Immanuel congregation council, Pastor Immanuel Yorinawa Salawangi, welcomed the minister and his entourage.

Minister Yaqut greeted the congregations inside before meeting the journalists waiting outside the church that is located at Semarang Old Town area.

He said that he is the Religious Affairs Minister for all religions, not for only one religion. "And tonight, I visit all my friends who are celebrating Christmas to share happiness with them," Yaqut added.

The minister also reminded all to make religions a source of inspiration, peace, and to spread love.

Immanuel Church congregation council Ida Lomboan appreciated the working visit made by the minister on Christmas Eve.

Bapak Religious Affairs Minister’s belief is different [from us], but he is willing to get together with us. He calls on [us] to maintain harmony among religious communities,” she said.
