TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mujiyono, the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council's (DPRD) Government Commission chairman, advised the capital city government to tighten the Large-scale Social Restrictions or PSBB before the level of Covid-19 transmission becomes more critical.

"Based on the indicators, we should be taking emergency actions," said the Democrat politician said on Tuesday, December 22.

He warned about the positivity rate that is closing in to 10 percent, and the fact that hospitals in Jakarta are almost at full capacity. Jakarta now has 98 Covid-19 referral hospitals.

In the capital, the occupancy rate of isolation beds and intensive care rooms (ICU) for Covid-19 patients continue to increase in the past month.

According to the Jakarta Health Office, 5,691 out of 6,663 isolation beds are occupied, or at 85 percent capacity as of December 20. ICU beds are at 80 percent capacity, with 722 out of 907 occupied.

Mujiyono said that the potential for Covid-19 transmission would be even higher because of the long year-end holiday. The most appropriate step for the government to take at this time, Mujiyono said, is to regulate people's movements in the capital.
