TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party Deputy Chairperson Habiburokhman on Tuesday opined that Sandiaga Uno - who had just been appointed to replace Wishnutama as Tourism and Creative Economy Minister - is more than competent for the job.

“From 2018 up until this moment [Sandiaga Uno] would travel Indonesia almost every week,” said Habiburokhman to Tempo on December 22. “He understands Indonesia’s tourism potential.”

He maintains that the Gerindra Party believes Sandiaga’s closeness to the creative industry sector will enable him to improve the national economy that has been in tatters due to Covid-19 and its byproduct economic recession.

“We hope that Sandiaga Uno will make the two aforementioned sectors (tourism and creative economy) as triggers to help spark the rise of Indonesia’s economy,” said the Gerindra Party deputy.

Yesterday, in a voice message addressed for journalists, Sandiaga said that him being appointed as the new state minister is “a challenging task.”
