TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati is calculating the required budget for the free COVID-19 vaccination programs for the public. According to her, the Finance Ministry has allocated Rp54.4 trillion.

“It comes from the 2021 State Budget and the remaining budget of the National Economic Recovery (PEN) in the health sector in 2020,” said Sri in a virtual press conference on State Budget on Monday, December 21, 2020.

In the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget Law, the anticipated budget for vaccine procurement was pegged at Rp18 trillion, while the remaining PEN funds for the health sector this year reached Rp36.4 trillion.

Sri outlined there were four main points that the government was paying attention to regarding vaccination in Indonesia.

They are the number of recipients, the number of doses, the effectiveness of the available vaccines, and the level of waste or potential damage caused during the vaccine distribution process.

Referring to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Sri Mulyani added, at least 70 percent of the population must be vaccinated.
