TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta is still grappling to control the local transmission of Covid-19. On December 8, the capital reported 1,174 new confirmed cases.

Dwi Oktavia, the Jakarta Health Office's director of disease prevention and control, said that today's positive cases came from testing 12,814 people.

With today's cases, Jakarta's Covid-19 tally has reached 146,601. According to Dwi, 11,511 people are still being treated or undergoing isolation, while 132,248 have recovered and 2,842 died. Jakarta's recovery rate stood at 90.2 percent and the mortality rate is 1.9 percent.

Jakarta's positivity rate remains high, reaching 8.6 percent in the past week, and "8.3 percent in total," Dwi said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) advised governments to keep positivity rates at no more than five percent.

Even though new cases of Covid-19 continue to grow by more than 1,000 per day, Jakarta is still enforcing a relaxed lockdown, known as the transitional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) period, which is set to last until December 21, 2020.
