TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung Traffic Police and the city administration agreed to implement a traffic restriction policy on 23 roads as the Proportional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) imposed in the city. The decision was made in a bid to minimize the crowd of people.

Bandung Traffic Police Chief Comr. Rano Hadiyanto said the traffic system would be applied in different time duration due to technical considerations. Several roads, he added, were often crowded by people who neglected the health protocols against Covid-19.

“Eleven streets in Ring 1 and 12 streets in Ring 2 will be affected with the road closure within different times. Some will be shut down from 5 p.m., 6 p.m., or 9 p.m. until morning,” said Rano on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Rano hoped that the traffic system application could limit people’s mobility in an effort to prevent Covid-19 transmission. Bandung is presently at a high risk of virus spread or classified as a red zone.
