TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The association of online motorcycle taxis (ojek) joined in the Two-Wheeled Action Movement Presidium (GARDA) on Monday revealed that they will take to the streets if the rumor of the merger between Gojek and Grab truly takes place.

GARDA chairman Igun Wicaksono told Bisnis.com that members of the association will target government headquarters to hold their protests. He asserts that the association he leads oversees the livelihood of millions of partners in the industry.

“Our aim will be the Merdeka Palace, House of Representatives (DPR), the coordinating ministry of maritime affairs and investment, KPPU (business competition supervisory commission), and the BKPM (investment coordinating board),” said Wicaksono on December 7.

He acknowledges that the business merger would be between businesses or B2B and their respective investors but the government would still act as the regulators having the authority to reject or accept the merger of the two ride-hailing giants in Indonesia.

“[They can authorize it] to maintain Indonesia’s economic climate,” said the Garda chairman.
