Mataram Decides Not to Celebrate New Year's Eve amid Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Mataram City government in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has officially decided not to partake in the 2021 new year’s eve celebrations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“As for the 2021 new year’s eve, we will not hold ceremonial events such as in previous years,” said the Mataram Tourism Agency Head, H.Nizar Denny Cahyadi on Monday, November 30.
The agency said the decision was made to abide by the central government’s official instruction for regional administrations, which mandates the latter to prevent any form of events that may cause a large group of people gathering in a single location.
Denny also reminded the public to stay at home during the 2021 new year’s eve and spend time together with family members. “If it’s merely celebrating with families and relatives or other positive activities, you may go ahead,” said Denny.
The Mataram city administration will also beef up security and law enforcement to take action against violations in its popular tourist destinations, especially its beaches. New year’s eve will take place during a weekend on Friday.
