TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the provincial government will not hold a big New Year's Eve 2021 celebration. The city budget, he added, is focused on the Covid-19 and flood mitigation.
Riza ensured that there will be no celebration event that brings large crowds. “Moreover, there is no budget for that,” he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 18, 2020.
According to Riza, the celebration of the next year’s eve was canceled given the potential of the rising Covid-19 positive cases ahead of Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021. “There will be no music concert, cultural concert, dance show, and other performances this year.”
As for the Christmas celebration, the city government was still deliberating it as it needed to review various factors and data, especially related to the coronavirus disease. “All policies cannot be taken unilaterally,” Riza underlined.
Jakarta administration was coordinating with all parties, “with religious leaders, religious figures, the central government, and experts,” said Riza, adding that in this current situation of Covid-19 pandemic, the government was enhancing coordination.
