Indonesian Soccer Legend Ricky Yacobi Passes Away

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of the Indonesian soccer legends, Ricky Yacobi or known as Ricky Yakob, has passed away this morning, November 21. He died when playing football at Senayan, Jakarta.

Sports Ministry secretary, Gatot S. Dewa Broto, confirmed the news through a WhatsApp broadcast.

Innalilahi wainnailahi rojiun, our friend and a national soccer player bang Ricky Yacobi has passed away at Mintoharjo Hospital. May the deceased die in a state of Husnul Khatimah. Alfatihah,” wrote Gatot.

Based on the circulating image, Ricky, who was playing football with other players from Medan, suddenly fell on the field. Several players tried to give him first aid before he immediately was brought to the hospital.

Ricky Yakob was a top bomber in the mid-80s until the early 90s period. He was best known for defending Arseto Solo and the Japanese club Matsushita FC.
