TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Health Agency Head, Erizon Safari, revealed potential Covid-19 transmission following Rizieq Shihab’s events in Petamburan that attracted a large crowd.

Erizon argued that the impacts of the crowds, which mostly neglected the health protocol, would be seen in the next one or two weeks.

“The Community Health Center (Puskesmas) will conduct contact tracing once there is a report,” said Erizon on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

According to him, all regions especially Jakarta and its surrounding areas must be aware of potential virus transmission following the crowded events last Saturday. People who attended the gatherings, he added, were not only from the capital city but also from other provinces.

“That is why everyone needs to anticipate a surge in cases,” Erizon underlined. “We hope there will be no hike [in virus infection].”

Two weeks ago, he recalled, the Petamburan sub-district reported about 20 active cases. So far, the number of Covid-19 cases in the area has not increased.

“We have entrusted the Petamburan Puskemas team to anticipate a surge and increase contact tracing towards people who develop symptoms,” Erizon said.
