TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police spokesperson Brigadier General Awi Setiyono addressed the 13-second video showing a police mobile brigade (Brimob) personnel proudly throwing a kitten into a ditch which has gone viral on Instagram.

According to Setiyono, the Brimob personnel is currently under questioning by the brigade’s internal affairs. The person in question is identified as Police Brigadier (Briptu) SS from the North Sumatra Brimob.

“The perpetrator is Briptu SS, a member of the North Sumatra Brimob. He is currently mobilized as a backup in Jakarta,” said Awi Setiyono at the Police Criminal Investigation Body (Bareskrim) headquarters on November 5.

The cruelty happened in the afternoon of September 30, 2020. However, Awi said the perpetrator claimed that he had unintentionally committed the animal abuse after the kitten approached him while he was eating his meal.

“This annoyed him and eventually threw the cat into the ditch,” said the police spokesperson. “We truly regret that a member of ours committed such a vile act and will certainly be punished according to the law.”
