TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta administration on Monday announced that it will partner with the private sector to overcome the flooding problem that has loomed over the city annually.

North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Ali Maulana Hakim announced in a written statement suggesting that the government had established deals with a number of private firms upon forming teams - in coordination with the government - that would handle flooding issues.

His written statement suggests each firm bearing this responsibility will have an appointed person in charge for the coordination aspect.

However, Ali did not go into details about the recent meeting with representatives of the firms and how far the partnership goes. He only said that urban flooding is a problem that must be overcome collectively.

This comes as Indonesia is entering the rainy season which poses a threat for areas such as North Jakarta that always face the threat of flooding everytime the rainy season arrives.
