Central Java to Hold Random COVID-19 Tests During 'Long Weekend' Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the ‘Maulid Nabi’ holiday and a collective leave in the weekend coming this week, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo on Monday made a special request for tourist site management to only accept visitors that are proven to be healthy.
Ganjar’s request comes as the province intends to maintain its strict COVID-19 restrictions but opens the door for an economic opportunity during the lengthy holiday from October 28 up to November 1.
“Please make sure that the visitors that arrive are healthy,” said the governor from his headquarters on Monday, October 26.
He also reminded restaurants in general, especially those in popular tourist sites, to always abide by physical distancing measures and noted that reports he received suggest many locations continue to break this rule.
“This protocol is a requirement. If they are not able to control that we will close their [businesses].” Ganjar Pranowo said.
The Central Java administration announced that it will hold random COVID-19 tests during the holidays that will mainly focus on tourist destinations and regional borders.
