Police Investigate 42 Alleged Criminal Cases Linked to 2020 Pilkada

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police were investigating a total of 42 alleged criminal cases related to the 2020 Regional Head Election or Pilkada.

“The Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Sentra Gakkumdu) received 195 reports, and 42 cases of which were forwarded to the police,” said the police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Awi outlined that there were 11 types of cases, namely electoral frauds (4 cases), the change in job positions carried out within six months before registering in the election (2 cases), violating people’s rights to run as an election candidate (2 cases), political dowry (1 case), money politics (6 cases), and providing advantages or causing harms to one of the candidates (17 cases).

Moreover, there were cases of obstructing the election organizers to do their duties (2 cases), conducting campaigns that insult others or tribal affiliations, religion, race and societal groups (SARA) (2 cases), campaigns with violence or threats (1 case), and campaign while involving illegal parties (1 case).

In addition to alleged criminal cases, the police also discovered 20 violations of the predetermined health protocol against COVID-19.
